Synopsis

Mindful Assessment: The 6 Essential Fluencies of Innovative Learning outlines six critical skills necessary for students to succeed in the 21st century world. Lee Crockett and Andrew Churches assert that, in order to effectively support modern students, teachers must see their teaching as a response to learning, rather than seeing learning as an outcome of teaching. This will require remodeling assessment practices to correspond to changes in standards and pedagogy that emphasize inquiry and project-based learning. With the essential fluencies as a basis, the authors provide tools to help educators focus their instruction and assessment changes on mindfulness and feedback for improvement.

Readers will:

  • Discover the essential fluencies and skills students need for success in the 21st century, including the distinct aspects that are integral to each
  • Examine different kinds of assessments and their focuses, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Gain assessment rubrics for evaluating students’ skills in the essential fluencies
  • Access sample lessons and projects that support the essential fluencies
