Synopsis

“NUGGETS OF WISDOM: CORE VALUES FOR WORK AND LIFE”

WHETHER YOU’RE 18 or 80—JUST STARTING A CAREER, IN MIDCAREER OR RETIRED—Wellsprings of Work explores often-unappreciated drivers of meaning and fulfillment in whatever you work at, from your job to your larger and later life.

This second edition adds a chapter—“Protecting ‘I’ from AI”—that explains how artificial intelligence threatens the wellsprings of meaning, plus a practical toolkit for putting the book into practice.

Wellsprings grows out of the breadth of life experiences of Samuel “Skip” Halpern. He studied philosophy, psychology, and politics at Brown University and the London School of Economics, and after law school, litigated complex investment cases for a decade. Extensive travels through India added Hindu and Buddhist insights. His 50-year career has revolved around Wall Street—from Warren Buffett to fraudster Bernie Madoff, the 2008 Financial Crisis and investment funds for Major League Baseball Players, Inupiat Eskimos, and hundreds of millions of Chinese.

Through these and other experiences, Wellsprings uncovers sources of meaning, motivation, and purpose beneath the surface of whatever activities you pursue, whatever your age.
