Twenty four contemporary quilt artists are featured in this expanded catalog for a juried exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. The artists, all members of New England regional Studio Art Quilters Associates (SAQA), invite you to look over their shoulders and learn about the extensive variety of techniques they use to bring their work to life. From improvisational piecing to traditional embroidery, from digital design to eco-printing, today’s fiber artists draw on a wide range of materials and tools to add depth, complexity and texture to their work. The artists were selected by jurors Pam weeks and Jan Davila, and then worked with curators Allison Wilbur and Nancy Turbitt to document their processes and gather a rich variety of material for the exhibit and catalog. Each artist has a six page spread in this catalog featuring detailed information on their technique. Techniques include gelatin plate, eco and sun printing, improvisational piecing, digital manipulation, portraiture, raw edge appliqué, fused collage, ice dyeing, curved piecing, wool felting, hand and machine quilting, fabric markers, embroidery, and much more. Step into these quilt artists’ studios, lean in close and watch as they transform fiber into art!
