During the 2016 presidential election, he wrote a book of interviews titled, "Yeller Dawgs--Texans who can't vote Republican in 2016." Most recently, he published a look into the near future of global warming ("Noah's Island"). He and his wife divide their time between their families in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Austin, Texas, USA.
