Synopsis

Bullying has been and still is a huge problem in our society, particularly with children and youth. Suicide rates by youth who have expressed that they were victims of bullying have skyrocketed over the last decade. The reality is, we may never see a day when all people say positive words instead of negative ones; where people who may be experiencing their own insecurities, lash out on others. So what can be done to tackle this issue and protect our youth? R.O.A.R is geared towards victims of bullying and is a guide on how parents can address the issues with bullying. The basis of this book is to teach children and youth self-esteem and confidence by stressing that other people's opinions are not a their reality. While words can hurt, believing them can cause serious and irreversible emotional damage. R.O.A.R not only focuses on self-esteem and confidence, but provides children and youth ways to counter bullying using non-violent tactics and resources around them. My goal is to provide parents with no-nonsense tactics to collaborate with schools to put and end to bullying behavior. The F.A.A.B. Foundation also provides valuable services to parents who feel as though they are at their wits ends. Although we may not be able to stop bullying altogether, we can begin ensuring that our youth has positive self-images and the tools needed to combat and end their own personal ordeals with bullying.

About the Author

Michele Lee "Mimi" Evans hails from Washington, DC. She is a married mother who had a vision to start a non-profit organization that would focus on issues effecting today's youth. As a child, Mimi suffered abuse and bullying both at home and in school. Mimi was bullied from elementary school until her freshmen year of high school practically by the same group of girls. At home, Mimi suffered verbal, physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her father from the ages of 9 -14. Domestic violence between her parents and siblings was also an everyday occurrence. After being removed from her home and placed in a group home, and eventually two foster homes, she suffered from severe depression. Mimi attempted suicide four times between the ages of 14 and 16. She knew that there are other youth currently dealing with situations like hers, however, with the dawn of social media, Mimi saw firsthand how the internet was a new and anonymous way for bullies to attack their victims. With prayer and the encouragement of family and friends, Mimi started The F.A.A.B Foundation (Fighting Against Abuse & Bullying) to help youth that may be experiencing some of these life-altering issues by providing them with the tools she did not have, to share her strength and offer hope, encouragement, and solutions to children, youth, and parents.
