As a child growing up in an apartment, I’d gaze in wonder at Victorian houses in my neighborhood. Gables and gingerbread fired my imagination like no boxy edifice could. I fancied the tapestry of lives behind those lacy curtains were far more colorful than my own. Painted ladies and minutia of yesteryear manifested in my novels, but fifty years of longing and living at cross-purposes with myself would pass before I’d become mistress of my own Victorian. Now intimate with timbered rafters above my head to floorboard creaking beneath my footfall, my love for my home is infinitely compounded. Allowing my passions full rein, pen and paper and word have married. Thus, Anatomy of a Victorian is born with a heart full of joy.
