A Simple Place is a memoir of an immigrant boy’s life in a 1950s Illinois town based on the author’s recollections. It is also a reflection of an America long gone by, and although this was an idyllic time to grow up in, the author attempts to give the reader the positive as well the negative aspects of small-town life. Based on his award-winning documentary, the book expands on the film, adding greater detail and also reflects on the realities that the boy would not have been aware of. In short, it’s a loving memoir of a wonderful place and time long gone by. Book includes na few poems, musings and a short story.
