Ethan Frome is the story of a broken "ruin of a man" and the series of misfortunes in life and love that contribute to his fate. Originally published in 1911, this novella was an instant classic and is considered one of Edith Wharton's most lasting masterpieces.
Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was an American novelist, short story writer, and playwright. Wharton drew upon her insider's knowledge of the upper class New York "aristocracy" to realistically portray the lives and morals of the Gilded Age. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1921.
