Synopsis

"A twisty, timely legal thriller that puts the justice system itself on trial." —Best Thrillers

The courtroom promised justice. What it delivered was a carefully engineered lie, and Ashley Corbin is the only one willing to say it out loud.

As the verdict ripples outward, Ashley realizes that she is involved in something dangerous—a system where power is protected, truth is obscured, and where the sacrifice of an innocent life in pursuit of a political cause is easily justified. A beloved teacher walks free while the woman he violated faces criminal charges under a law no one thought still existed.

With every truth she surfaces, the political machine closes in tighter, and the danger grows deeply personal.

With her career at risk, her daughter in danger, and the system actively working against her, Ashley must decide how far she is willing to go when the law itself becomes the enemy.

This sharp, gritty legal drama, where every rule bends in service of power is a story with real consequences, the kind that makes you question who the justice system actually serves.

About the Author

Light attended both engineering and law school (apparently, unable to make up his mind). He spent three decades practicing law, including environmental, energy, contract, telecommunications, and patent law. (Do you see a pattern here?) But he yearned to be a teller of stories that both entertain and enlighten and published his first novel in 2002. The Last Rights will be his sixth published novel. When he's not traveling with his spouse, Sonya, or not writing, he is a dedicated servant to their cat, Feste. He enjoys trying Asian-inspired recipes, experimenting with his air fryer (you don't need one but it really is fun), and reading about new energy technologies (super-hot geothermal looks promising). So much to dabble in. So little time.
