Synopsis
世界上如此之多的生物,各有奇妙的表观形态,它们之间有什么联系吗?自古以来,人们对生命总是充满了好奇和疑问,各种幻想、迷思、假说在哲学、科学、宗教、民间文化等各个领域层出不穷,充分体现了人类丰富的想象力和智慧。达尔文的《物种起源》提出了物竞天择的自然选择假说,用"微小有益变异的缓慢积累"作为性状特征进化的机制解释变异的生物如何在进化中胜出。
作者认为"微小有益变异的缓慢积累"的机制是建立在地质渐变论和习得性遗传并且性状特征无限可塑的假设上,这些已经被现代地质学和现代生物学否定,因此达尔文进化论在现代科学中不再成立。达尔文在书中的例证和推理也不能支持超过物种类型的变异,并多处犯了"过度引伸"的错误。作者认为应该根据事实定义进化的边界,特别是作为科普和基础教育的内容,而对未知边界的研究应该存开放的心态。 本评论根据生命科学的原理讨论达尔文的《物种起源》。本书将按照原书的章节顺序进行,从"引言"开始,到"第十五章复述和结论"结束,和读者一起一步一步地以二十一世纪的科学知识反思十九世纪的达尔文进化论,启迪我们的思想,特别希望刚接触生物学的莘莘学子们能够成为具有独立和批判式思维的科学家。
