Synopsis
本书从一个五岁孩子回忆日本侵略中国开始,那时他住在属于半殖民地区的上海法租界。他早年经历了抗日战争,国民党撤退,上海解放等历史事件。
他19岁时经香港和英国到美国留学,获物理博士学位。他由衷地热爱物理学,曾在贝尔实验室和IBM研究中心等世界顶级的科学实验室里工作。
1972年他随美国科学家代表团访问中国,得到了周恩来总理的接见。回美国后在杂志《科学美国人》上发表文章:《高科技在中国》,向美国民众介绍中国。他促使IBM到中国开展业务,参与IBM在1973年派出的首个业务代表团访华,帮助中国向世界开放。
在科学技术上,他与诺贝尔物理学奖获得者江崎共同构建了高科技的人造固体-超晶格,现在这种材料已发展成纳米技术和超材料技术,获得了广泛的应用。
