About the Author

Paul Amar is department chair and professor in the Global Studies Department at the University of California Santa Barbara and director of the Orfalea Center for Global and International Studies. He is co-editor of Cairo Cosmopolitan: Politics, Culture, and Urban Space in the New Globalized Middle East (AUC Press, 2006) and Dispatches from the Arab Spring: Understanding the New Middle East (2013), and editor of New Racial Missions of Policing: International Perspectives on Evolving Law-Enforcement Politics (2010); Global South to the Rescue: Emerging Humanitarian Superpowers and Globalizing Rescue Industries (2011); and The Middle East and Brazil: Perspectives on the New Global South (2014).
