Jesus says, "Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit because apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:4-5).

We are meant to abide in Jesus, to unite ourselves to him. Yet over the course of our lives, we experience brokenness and loss, which lead us to doubt God's presence.

About the Authors

Heather Khym is cohost of the internationally popular Abiding Together podcast and assistant director of evangelization at Franciscan University. She and her husband, Jake, co-founded Life Restoration Ministries, where she serves as director of vision and ministry for the British Columbia-based apostolate. She also serves as director of the Celtic Cross Foundation.

Khym has more than twenty-five years of experience as a speaker and retreat leader, presenting workshops and conferences throughout the United States and Canada. She studied theology and catechetics at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

She lives in Steubenville, Ohio, with her husband and three adult children.

Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, is the president of Franciscan University of Steubenville. He has served for more than thirty years as a spiritual director, retreat leader, and formation director. He also served as the director of Franciscan Pathways. He is a well-known conference speaker and pilgrimage leader. Pivonka is active in charismatic renewal and serves on the board of Renewal Ministries. Pivonka is the author of several books, including Spiritual Freedom and Hiking the Camino.
