Synopsis

Temperate is seven years old and she recently moved to a new school. She has been able to make new friends but obviously a new school comes with its fair share of challenges. However, while Temperate attempts to navigate her new world; she comes across a situation that she has never experienced before. This new situation rocks her world and dramatically changes her personality which is quite disturbing for her parents. As it turns out, Temperate is pushed beyond her limits; being bullied by one of her classmates yet, she lacks the words and the courage to speak up for herself and express this to her parents and concerned teachers. Eventually though, something horrible happens which grants her a clear perspective of her situation and the will power to release self doubt and express her concerns. But the question is, will she be able to forgive herself for not acting sooner?

About the Author

Kareen Lopez Samuels hails from the small island of Jamaica, a teacher of English by profession and she has been an educator for over twenty years. The first child and only girl for her parents - Winston and Beatrice Lopez (deceased). She attended the Osborne Store Primary School, then Glenmuir High School. After graduating high school, she attended the Mico College; now Mico University College in Kingston, Jamaica. She taught at Vere Technical High School for two years, then completed a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics at the University of the West Indies, Mona, campus. Kareen later married Desmond Samuels and migrated to Ontario, Canada, where they currently live with their two girls: Abigail and Rachel. She also completed a Masters' degree in Language, Culture and Education at York University, the Keele Campus and an Honours Specialist in English from the same institution. She is currently employed to the Peel District School Board.
