D'Artagnan is a young man from Gascony who is determined to become a Musketeer of the Royal Guard. Upon arriving in Paris, he almost immediately headbutts with Athos, Porthos, and Aramis - three well known musketeers - and challenges them to duels in the name of honor. Before they can start, however, they are attacked by the Cardinal's guards and send them off scampering together.
From that moment on, the four become inseparable and d'Artagnan coins the famous phrase, "One for all and all for one!" But almost immediately, d'Artagnan's loyalty to his new allies puts him in the deadly path of Cardinal Richlieu and quintessential evil woman, Lady de Winter - better known as Milady. And when the young hero falls in love with the beautiful Constance, he finds himself in a world of murder, conspiracy and lies with only the musketeers to depend on.
Under the watchful eye of their patron M. de Treville, the four heroes strive to defend the honor of the regiment against the guards of Cardinal Richelieu, and the honor of the queen against the machinations of the Cardinal himself, as the power struggles of seventeenth century France vividly play out in the background.
D'Artagnan's most dangerous encounter is with Milady - one of literature's most memorable female villains - which brings this enthralling novel to a breathtakingly gripping and dramatic conclusion.
Based on Mémoires de Monsieur d'Artagnan, a novel about a French Musketeer who served Louis XIV, The Three Musketeers is a historical, adventure story shrouded in political intrigue. Fiction enthusiasts will truly enjoy this swashbuckling tale full of intrigue, camaraderie, loyalty, romance, and revenge.
