Leap into an extraordinary true story that brings science, history, and heart together in one unforgettable adventure with this addition to the popular Children's Animal Book Series!
Every May frog jockeys, people who jump bullfrogs, gather in Angels Camp, California for the annual Frog Jubilee ™. In 1986, a plain female bullfrog named Rosie the Ribeter was among the bullfrogs jumping. Usually males dominate because spring is the season when frogs lay eggs, and the contest rules say no females with eggs can jump. Would she be competitive?
The story begins when Rosie is captured from her moonlit irrigation ditch. When the frog jockeys tested her, she jumped straight. This was important because the competition measures how far a frog jumps from a starting pad for three consecutive jumps. If a frog jumps crooked, it could end up very close to the starting pad. Rosie jumped straight. She would enter the competition! But could she win?
Inspired by Mark Twain's short story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," this children's animal book is perfect for reading aloud to 4-7 year-olds, independent reading for 7-10 year-olds, teaching the STEM/NGSS standards, and family reading time.
Bird. Mammal. Marine Mammal. Spider. Amphibian. Reptile. Mollusk.
This series includes the story of the oldest bird in the world, a spider in space, an orphaned puma cub, a bullfrog with a world-record leap, the poignant story of saving a species from extinction, the dolphin who inspired a government to protect him, and a humble snail who teaches us to observe.
The series is much more than just an introduction to the animal kingdom. It chronicles the story of how humans interact with animals in various ways: how we enjoy, challenge, admire, endanger, and save them. It's a fabulous series for kids to learn about the amazing and extraordinary complexity of animals.
