For Heather Jones, inspiration can be anywhere. In her debut book, Quilt Local, she designed a collection of 20 quilts, each inspired by objects and places close to home―country roads, cityscapes, street signs―the landscape of her existence. Then, in a fascinating exercise in colour theory and design play, she reworked each one in a second palette to show how striking just a few basic changes can be. Pattern by pattern, Jones takes readers behind the scenes of her process, sharing photographs of her sources of inspiration, sketchbook pages, and the finished quilts. In addition, she offers an accessible lesson in colour theory as it applies to quiltmaking.

Heather Jones is a quilt designer and teacher and is the founder and former president of the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild. She has a BA and MA (ABT) in art history from the University of Cincinnati. Her quilts have appeared in numerous books from Martingale and Stash and in magazines like Martha Stewart Living (as part of a Toyota ad) and Modern Patchwork. Three of her original quilts were chosen as winners of the Modern Quilt Guild’s Project Modern Challenges in 2010 and 2011, a year-long national competition, and she is a two-time finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards, most recently in 2014. Her quilt designs have also been featured at JoAnns. She teaches online at Creativebug.com, on television at Quilting Arts TV, and in person throughout the country. She also lectures at the Modern Quilt Guild convention, QuiltCon, and other events. Visit her website at www.oliveandollie.com.
