During the General Conference of 1909, Fernando and Anna Stahl accepted the call to be missionaries in Peru and Bolivia and paid their own way to South America. They arrived in Peru and spent there almost three decades, founding Adventist chapels, clinics, and schools in the region of Lake Titicaca and the Amazon. The Stahls were one of the most versatile and effective missionaries in the history of Peru. Besides providing medical care, they taught agriculture and sanitation practices; established churches, schools and missions; improved the living conditions of the Andean Indians; and mediated tribal conflicts. The people in the Andes still sing about them, and numerous schools, churches, missions and buildings are named in their honor. Their life and work have been exemplary and an inspiration for young people to follow after a life of self-sacrificing service. May their life be an inspiration for you.
