A new perspective on control methods is presented in this book, which broadens their application to a larger class of nonlinear dynamical systems. The aim is to equip the reader with control techniques that extend the benefits of model reduction of singular perturbation theory to engineering systems that possess interacting phenomena occurring at different speeds. New results and relevant background are presented through insightful examples that cover a wide range of applications from different branches of engineering. The book also discusses general rather than problem-specific developments in order to provide control engineers with useful analytical tools. It addresses new control problems using singular perturbation methods, including closed-form results for control of nonminimum phase systems. This text is intended for researchers and practitioners who use time scale methods to mitigate the curse of dimensionality and higher order controllers, especially in aerospace, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

Anshu Narang-Siddarth is an Assistant Professor in the William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington. She is the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research and is an Associate Member of the AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control Technical Committee. Her research interests are in nonlinear control theory, singular perturbation methods, and flight mechanics with key emphasis on real-time implementable solutions for control of nonminimum phase, interconnected systems, and nonaffine aerospace applications.
John Valasek is Director of the Center for Autonomous Vehicles and Sensor Systems, Professor of Aerospace Engineering, and a member of the Honors Faculty, at Texas A&M University. He has been conducting flight mechanics and control research of manned and unmanned air vehicles in industry and academia for more than 25 years. The author of two recent books – Morphing Aerospace Vehicles and Structures (2012) and Advances in Intelligent and Autonomous Aerospace Systems (2012) – he is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA, a member of the AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control Technical Committee, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics. His research is focused on bridging the gap between traditional computer science topics and aerospace engineering topics.

Hardback. Condition: New. This book introduces key concepts for systematically controlling engineering systems that possess interacting phenomena occurring at widely different speeds. The aim is to present the reader with control techniques that extend the benefits of model reduction of singular perturbation theory to a larger class of nonlinear dynamical systems. New results and relevant background are presented through insightful examples that cover a wide range of applications from different branches of engineering. This book is unique because it: Presents a new perspective on existing control methods and thus broadens their application to a larger class of nonlinear dynamical systems.Discusses general rather than problem-specific developments to certain applications or disciplines in order to provide control engineers with useful analytical tools. Addresses new control problems using singular perturbation methods, including closed-form results for control of nonminimum. Seller Inventory # LU-9781611973334
