"The poet Kabīr is one of the most interesting personalities in the history of Indian mysticism. A great religious reformer, the founder of a sect to which nearly a million northern Hindus still belong, it is yet supremely as a mystical poet that Kabīr lives for us. A beautiful legend tells us that after his death his Mohammedan and Hindu disciples disputed the possession of his body; which the Mohammedans wished to bury, the Hindus to burn. As they argued together, Kabīr appeared before them, and told them to lift the shroud and look at that which lay beneath. They did so, and found in the place of the corpse a heap of flowers; half of which were buried by the Mohammedans at Maghar, and half carried by the Hindus to the holy city of Benares to be burned."

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was a Bengali poet, writer, and philosopher, and the first non-European recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature. His work spans poetry, fiction, essays, and song, and played a central role in the development of modern Indian literature. Tagore's writings often explore themes of spirituality, human unity, and the relationship between individual experience and universal truth.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - A poetic rendering of the devotional verses of Kabir, presenting a sustained reflection on spiritual unity, inward practice, and the rejection of formal division. In Songs of Kabir, Rabindranath Tagore translates and interprets the voice of the fifteenth-century mystic, preserving the directness and intensity of the original compositions while shaping them for a modern readership. The poems move between image and declaration, emphasising the immediacy of spiritual experience over ritual or institutional form. Kabir's verse challenges distinctions between religious traditions, presenting a unified vision grounded in personal awareness and inner discipline. Tagore's treatment retains the simplicity of expression while allowing for philosophical depth, offering a sequence that is both lyrical and contemplative.Positioned between poetry and spiritual reflection, this work continues to hold significance within the study of devotional literature and comparative religion. It remains widely read for its clarity of expression and its enduring articulation of non-dual thought and inward realisation. Seller Inventory # 9781604594591
