About the Author
Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913) was an American clergyman, attorney, and author best known for his writings on prayer and the spiritual life. A veteran of the Civil War and later a pastor in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Bounds devoted much of his later life to the study and practice of prayer, producing a series of works that have remained widely read in devotional and pastoral contexts.His writings emphasize prayer as the central discipline of Christian life, shaping both personal character and effective ministry. Works such as Power Through Prayer, The Necessity of Prayer, and The Reality of Prayer continue to be regarded as foundational texts on the practice of prayer, valued for their clarity, directness, and focus on lived spiritual experience.
