Wallace D. Wattles (1860-1911) was an American writer associated with the New Thought movement. Drawing upon metaphysical philosophy, Christian Socialism, and his own experiences with poverty and self-education, he developed a practical system centered on creative thought, purposeful action, and personal development.His best-known works include The Science of Getting Rich, The Science of Being Well, and The Science of Being Great. Though little known during much of his lifetime, Wattles became an enduring influence on twentieth- and twenty-first-century self-help writing, particularly teachings involving visualization, prosperity, and the creative power of thought.
