About this title

About the Author

Victor Appleton was the house name used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate for the original Tom Swift series, which began in 1910. Several writers produced books under the name from concepts and outlines developed for the syndicate, with Howard R. Garis responsible for many of the earliest volumes. The stories transformed contemporary advances in electricity, aviation, communications, and machinery into fast-moving adventures for young readers.Tom Swift became one of the most enduring inventor heroes in American juvenile fiction. His adventures combined experimental technology with remote expeditions, buried treasure, rival inventors, criminals, spies, and lost civilizations. The series helped establish a lasting form of science-fiction adventure in which intelligence, mechanical ingenuity, and practical problem-solving are every bit as important as physical courage.
