Synopsis
نخستین گفتار این کتاب به مسائل و دشواریهای موجود در خواندن و تصحیح شاهنامه پرداخته، با تقسیم این دشواریها به دو مقولهی اصلی لفظی و معنایی، معیارها و ضوابطی برای تشخیص صورت درست در میان ضبطهای متفاوت نسخهها قائل میشود. گفتار دوم به مبانی و کارکردهای شهریاری در شاهنامه میپردازد و میکوشد از مطالعهی انتقادی شاهنامه عناصری مفید برای شناخت خرد سیاسی در ایران در طول تاریخ بیرون کشد و نشان دهد شاهنامه در کنار جنبههای داستانی و شعری و زبانی و
غیره، متنی است در باب سیاست و آیین کشورداری. گفتار سوم، تأملی است در تعبیر سهروردی از نبرد رستم و اسفندیار و نتایج آن در تاریخ اندیشه و سیاست در ایران
