This book is for any home user who has switched or is thinking of switching to Linux. Based on Red Hat's Fedora Core, "Linux for Non-Geeks avoids geeky subjects like server and network setup and concentrates on the subjects of interest to the average home user: Installation, the Internet, playing CDs and audio files, desktop customization, games, downloading software and fonts, USB storage devices, printing, and more. Readers with only basic experience with Windows or another Linux distribution will learn how to do everything on their Linux machine that they are used to doing with Windows. Includes a complete installation of Fedora Linux on two CDs.

I started "Linux for Non-Geeks" as a set of instructions to get my mother up and running with a Linux system. As I expanded upon that simple foundation to create the book, I tried to produce a guide that would help the average user get up and running in the world of Linux with as little fuss and grief as possible. I have kept the focus of the book on those things that average home users wish to do with their computers. As many potential Linux users are frightened away from the system by the perception that Linux is a nasty command-driven operating system that only a true geek could love (or use), I have tried to provide new users with the means by which to do almost everything they need or want to do from within the graphical interface so that they can feel right at home. Of course, as some people are interested in dabbling in the other, slightly geekier, side of the Linux experience, I have also included some guidance in that area too, thereby giving readers the basics by which to pursue that particular avenue, should they be so inclined.
