Synopsis
"Building a GIS" documents a time-tested and proven design process to help organizations plan the infrastructure - system configuration, platform sizing/selection, and network bandwidth - to sustain a GIS. The accompanying CD includes Capacity Planning Tool, which offers templates to automate system design analysis tasks. "Building a GIS", along with Roger Tomlinson's "Thinking About GIS, third edition", will help organizations cost-effectively implement, integrate, and scale a GIS.

About the Author
A pilot-turned-physicist and now systems consultant, Dave Peters joined ESRI as manager of the Systems Integration Department responsible for turnkey system deployments. For more than 20 years, he has worked at ESRI, helping customers, colleagues, and test teams develop a hardware/software selection and implementation model that works for even the largest enterprise GIS deployments. He established ESRI System Design Consulting Services in 1992 and authored the white paper "System Design Strategies." In addition, he developed the ESRI training class System Architecture Design Strategies.
