Synopsis
Can Chief Hackett unravel the latest tangled web in his tiny mountain bailiwick? Bodies are piling up at a historic mansion, but the chief seems distracted by his French teacher, a Bardot look-alike, and the annoying TV crew who has rolled in to shoot a dramatic Civil War reenactment on the mansion's grounds. Adding to the chaos, the chief's professor friend faces a personal crisis that reaches a bloody conclusion just as the crimes are solved.

About the Author
Mart Baldwin, a Depression baby, grew up in the Carolinas and Georgia. He attended Furman University, spent a year in Germany on a Fulbright scholarship, earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and retired as vice president of Shipley Company in Boston. He and his wife, Betty, now live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.
