Synopsis
From the author of B is for Buckeye: An Ohio Alphabet and Cardinal Numbers: An Ohio Number Book comes yet another reason to enjoy learning about the Buckeye State. In The Ohio Reader Marcia Schonberg expands the lessons from her two previous books and uses a variety of writing forms to showcase the state's history, people, symbols, and lore. Poetry (including a state pledge), word games, and Who Am I? animal riddles attract and engage beginning readers. Prose, biographies, and short stories (including a Civil War chapter story) challenge more advanced readers. With its broad scope and lively writing, The Ohio Reader offers "buckeyes" of all ages an armchair tour of the state and its wonders.

About the Authors
Ohio native and award-winning journalist Marcia Schonberg's written more than a dozen children's books and frequently contributes to national periodicals and daily newspapers, including the Columbus Dispatch and the Medina Gazette. Marcia is an active member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Ohioana Library Association, Midwest Travels Writers Association, and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She splits residency between Lexington, Ohio and Naples, Florida and travels extensively uncovering topics for her books and articles.
Artist Kate Darnell has been drawing for as long as she can remember and even after 20 years of doing it, is thrilled each day to be making her living at what she loves most to do--drawing pictures. She earned her BFA studying drawing and painting at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design. In addition to her freelance career as an illustrator and calligrapher, she is a part-time instructor of art at Lansing Community College.
Her art has been described as "making you want to slow down and look." Her intricate drawings are achieved through many layers of tiny colored pencil marks on vellum paper. She lives in East Lansing with her husband and daughter.
