About the Author

James Cooper is a professor in the Computer Studies department at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. During his 24 years with the college, he has taught a variety of computer subjects, focusing primarily on IBM i technology and teaching that subject since 1990. Jim serves as Lambton's liaison to the IBM Academic Initiative program. From 1995 through 2001, he was director of the IBM Roundtable College Conference, an annual IBM international conference for colleges teaching IBM i technologies. As director of the conference, he received an honorary award from IBM for his efforts with the IBM Academic Initiative Program and the Roundtable College Conference. Jim has co-authored two other programming textbooks: Programming in Cobol/400, 2nd Ed. (John Wiley and Sons, 2002) and RPG II and RPG III Structured Programming, 2nd Ed. (John Wiley and Sons, 1991).Paul Conte, a System iNetwork senior technical editor, is president of PCES of Eugene, Oregon, which provides educational and consulting services in software development practices and database design. Paul has been a software developer and consultant for more than 20 years and is a widely published expert on database systems, database design, programming languages, and application development practices. A leading authority on DB2 for IBM i, his articles have appeared in System iNEWS, DB2 Magazine, Database Programming & Design, and numerous other publications. Paul is also author or co-author of several books, including Common Sense C, Database Design and Programming for DB2/400, and SQL/400 Developer's Guide, all published by 29th Street Press. He is also co-author of SQL Server 7.0 Developer's Guide and SQL Server 2000 Developer's Guide, both published by Osborne/McGraw-Hill.
