Synopsis
Building upon the few undisputed facts, Jeff Rackham has constructed a piece of fiction almost as rich and lavish as the great author's himself. Beginning at the height of Dickens' fame, the novel is told in alternating chapters by three very different narrators, none of whom hesitates to deride the others: the author Wilkie Collins, Dicken's sister-in-law Georgina Hogarth, and Ellen Ternan herself. An engrossing tale that examines the conflicting demands of public propriety and private libertinism, THE RAG & BONE SHOP is part love story, part morality tale, and wholly enthralling.
About the Author
Jeff Rackham is professor of English at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, and has served as a Fulbright scholar in Portugal and Macedonia. In addition to publishing short fiction he is the author of several scholarly collections and a standard textbook on writing. The Rag and Bone Shop is his first novel.
