A complete practical guide to creating and using plaster moulds in clay work. The author covers the basics of setting up a workshop area, selecting and working with the materials, and works through a series of specific projects, from simple one-piece press pieces, to multi-piece moulds for use with liquid clay slip.

Molds are the potter's shortcut, often used for production work when a number of identical pieces are wanted. They are sometimes used to make a plain clay body that can be given individual embellishments. Clayton, a ceramic artist and consultant, gives instructions for making and using plaster or rubber molds. Projects are accompanied by detailed lists of materials with black-and-white photographs that tend to be somewhat dark. Some very clever finished works by other artists are shown in color. This book is suitable for larger crafts collections where other pottery books circulate.
