About the Author

Barbara Bateman, Ph.D., J.D., began her special education career in the 1950s in public schools and institutions where she taught children with mental retardation, visual impairments, autism, speech and language disorders, dyslexia, and other disabilities. Presently, Dr. Bateman is a consultant in special education law. She consults with and provides training to parents, attorneys, school districts, and others involved in special education legal disputes. Her publications number over 100 and include Writing Measurable IEP Goals and Objectives, Why Johnny Doesn't Behave: Twenty Tips for Measurable BIPS, and Better IEP Meetings, a companion volume to Better IEPs. Dr. Annemieke Golly is a certified special education teacher and has taught children with behavior and conduct disorders for the past eighteen years. Dr. Golly received her Ph.D., in Special Education at the University of Oregon. Her areas of expertise are preventive interventions, behavior management, and classroom and school-wide management. She is currently working at the Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior at the University of Oregon as a teacher trainer and program director.
