Great Primer on TAPI, TSAPI, SunXTL and CTI
Almost every phone system (PBX and ACD) can now be attached to, and controlled by a server on a local area network. This is a major revolution in telecom and offers major advantages to users. This is the first book on computer telephony. It spells out the benefits and a detailed description of how to achieve them. Over 20 experts have contributed chapters. They came from Dialogic, Enterprise Integration Group, GammaLink, Microsoft, Novell, Opus Research, Sunsoft and TRT. The book includes the newest descriptions of the major client-server technologies SCSA, Novell's Telephony Services, SunXTL, and Microsoft's Windows Telephony. This book has over 100 drawings, graphs, and tables. Partial Contents: The Client-Server Revolution; The Client-Server Acid Test; CTI and Client-Server Computing; Switch Integration Strategies; Computer Fax; TAPI 2.1 and Evaluating Potential Solutions.
Four out of eleven chapters of this book include education material from Dialogic. Chapter four is called "Computer-Telephone Integration Primer." It is based on Carl Strathmeyer's donation from when he was still at DEC. The updated references to CTI links to bring it current and include CT-Connect. The fifth chapter that talks about the confusion between TAPI, TSAPI and how they don't really do the CSTA stuff... how you really need CT-Connect to glue it all together. Lots of diagrams. Very good stuff. Chapter six is pure GammLink from John Taylor. It's an edited version of his excellent CBF primer. This updated version inlcudes a graphic of a GammaLink-based fax/Internet gateway. Chapter seven is now the SCSA Blueprint.
