Getting The Help You Deserve
I wrote this book to help people who suffer from drug, alcohol, food and behavioral addictions, such as gambling, work, shopping, the internet, and sex. As a psychotherapist, I have found that many who have difficulties attaining and maintaining abstinence have co-occurring Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.(ADHD) Treating the addiction without treating the ADHD can lead to frequent relapses, the inability to maintain sobriety, and in some cases the quality of sobriety is greatly impaired by ADHD symptoms. Both ADHD and addiction must be treated. You may already understand how people self-medicated their ADHD symptoms with substance and behaviors. I provide practical ways to change ADHD and addictive behaviors with and without the use of medication. I also discuss the benefits of medication to treat ADHD when properly monitored in a comprehensive treatment program. There is a chapter that addresses ways to get the most out of 12 Step Programs when you have ADHD. I wrote this book in a reader friendly format. May it provide you with hope and information that will serve you, or someone you love.
