The Sams.net Publishing book teaches Java 1.1 programming for new programmers, casual programmers, and others who want a basic approach. Twenty-four one-hour tutorials will teach readers to write Java programs for the World Wide Web and programs for the desktop.
Readers will create Java 1.1-compatible programs to play craps, analyze lottery numbers, calculate Elvis' weight in space, and determine the best letters to shout out during Wheel of Fortune. They'll also find out a little bit about virus writing, Holly Hunter's sad deaf mute in The Piano, and the half-life of Thorium 230.
The web site includes a sample section of the book, the table of contents and a featured applet. In the event that there are any errores, typographilac glitches, or programming gubs in the 384-page opus, they will be addressed on the web site in errata and clarification pages. That ocurence seems highly unlikely, however.
