Dr. James B. Beard is one of the world's leading turfgrass agronomists, and has published several best-selling books on turfgrass culture and management. He spent the past 16 years compiling the countless changes that have occurred in the field of golf course maintenance and management to update the best-selling, practical book ever published for the golf industry and for golf course superintendents Turf Management for Golf Courses. He earned a BSc degree from Ohio State University in 1957 and both MSc and PhD degrees from Purdue University in 1959 and 1961, respectively. He has held research-teaching positions on the faculties at Michigan State University and Texas A&M University, and served as interim Heard of the Soil and Crop Science Department. He founded the International Sports Turf Institute, Inc. in 1992. Dr. Beard is an international advisor and lecturer on turfgrass issues. He has published over 260 scientific research papers and over 400 popular technical articles.
