Synopsis
Ceramic Transactions, Volume 56. Advanced materials scientists and engineers have made significant progress in the formation of near-net shapes using ceramic-matrix composites. This volume details production techniques that have produced densely compacted components of greater fracture toughness. Review papers on processing techniques such as combustion synthesis, self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and sol-gel are included. Industrial-scale production of titanium nitride and various ferritic materials are reviewed. Components made of nonoxide materials, for example, titanium diboride, molybdenum disilicide and titanium nitride, are specifically discussed.
