About the Author
JOHN HILLEN has held prestigious fellowships at institutions such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Aspen Institute, and the Heritage Foundation. In 1999 he was appointed to the study group of the U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century, a bipartisan blue-ribbon federal advisory commission examining the changing security environment in the new century. He lives in the New York City area.

From Wikipedia: "John Hillen (born 3 February 1966) is an American business executive and the former Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, nominated by President George W. Bush, who served from October 11, 2005 until January 11, 2007. He served as President & CEO of Sotera Defense Solutions formerly Global Defense Technology & Systems, Inc. (GTEC) from 2008-June 18, 2013. While at Sotera, he took the company public in November 2009. John currently serves on a number of corporate boards and is the Executive in Residence and Professor of Practice at George Mason University's School of Business. Dr. Hillen received his BA from Duke University, his MA from King's College London, his doctorate from the St Antony's College, Oxford, and an MBA from Cornell University. Hillen was an officer in the United States Army for twelve years. He has served in special operations and conventional units. He has been decorated for his actions in combat. While serving as Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, Dr. Hillen was the senior State department official responsible for coordinating America s diplomatic strategy with its military operations.
