Geronimo "the one who yawns"; June 16, 1829 – February 17, 1909) was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache who fought against Mexico and Arizona for their expansion into Apache tribal lands for several decades during the Apache Wars. "Geronimo" was the name given to him during a battle with Mexican soldiers. Geronimo's Chiricahua name is often rendered in English as Goyathlay or Goyahkla.

Geronimo (1829 1909) was a leader and medicine man of the Chiricahua Apache tribe. He fought against both the United States and Mexico as they encroached into his tribal lands, known famously as the Apache Wars. He eventually surrendered to the U.S. army and was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he was kept as a prisoner of war until his death.
