First published in 1992, this text is a portrait of the life and work of Rumi. Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273), a provincial religious teacher, became an ecstatic mystic at the age of 37 after meeting the wandering dervish, Shams Tabriz. Rumi then began the search for the lost Divine Beloved through his verse, symbolized by the whirling dance of the Mevlevi dervishes. This dance is still performed today, accompanied by the chanting of Rumi's poems. The author also offers her own translations of his poems.
