The Hyksos - interlopers from Asia Minor with Cretan and Minoan trading connections - ruled Egypt for over two hundred years, after the end of the Middle Kingdom. Seqenenra Tao of Weset roused the native princes to rebellion but died before they could achieve success. His second son, Kamose, assumed command and led a sweep up the Nile to the Hyksos Pharoah's delta stronghold. Then Kamose was assassinated by his own allies, and young Ahmose, the surviving Tao prince, was wounded.
In The Horus Road it is the women of the Tao family who must hold the native forces together until Ahmose recovers and, ultimately, leads the Egyptians to triumph.
The Horus Road concludes a trilogy, beginning with The Hippopotamus Marsh, followed by The Oasis, that brings to vivid life the passions and intrigues which ushered in the great Eighteenth Dynasty.

Review:
...compelling character descriptions...lovely use of language...a thoroughly readable novel. (The National Post on LORDS OF THE TWO LANDS)

[Gedge] paints prose poems of astonishing beauty that fill House of Dreams with Egypt's glorious sunlight, crystalline air, cool fragrant breezes, turquoise skies... (The Toronto Star on THE HOUSE OF DREAMS)

Pauline Gedge's strengths imagination, ingenuity in plotting, and convincing characterization - are here in abundance (Books in Canada on HOUSE OF ILLUSIONS)

Gedge's powerful historic imagination, capable of filling epic canvases with characters affectingly human...has had full scope in Scroll of Saqqara. (The Toronto Star on THE SCROLL OF SAQQARA)

...Pauline Gedge once again brings to life the majestic world of ancient Egypt, displaying an in-depth knowledge of time and place during the reign of Ramses II...a compelling picture (Washington Post Book World on SCROLL OF SAQQARA)

a rich pageant, satisfying on more levels than simply that of the narrative... (Wall Street Journal on CHILD OF THE MORNING)

A lustrous tale of Pharaonic decadence (The New York Times on THE TWELFTH TRANSFORMING)

Once more, Pauline Gedge gives many hours of exacting, descriptive reading. And, this really is a very moving family story (Bangor Chronicle)
