Synopsis
The Complete Short Fiction Of The Ever-Popular Amsterdam Duo; The Amsterdam Cops - Henk Grijpstra and Rinus de Gier - together with the commissaris and their colleagues on the police force - have appeared in fourteen novels and thirteen stories. All the stories are collected for the first time in this volume which includes five that have never before been published in this country; Amsterdam is not really a hotbed of violent crime but wrongdoing does occur. The more bizarre events are passed to the team of Grijpstra and de Gier. But an American who reports his wife missing is told, 'No use going all out to make arrests if you can't put the bad folks behind bars anyway,' and in the Netherlands the police have so few cells available that they try to give everyone 'the maximum benefit of all possible doubts'. Yet, the Amsterdam Cops must see to it that justice is ultimately done.
