This book was originally created to share the experiences of occupational therapists at the Cardinal Hill Healthcare System as they transitioned from using the Uniform Terminology for Occupational Therapy-Third Edition (UT-III) to integrating the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process in occupational therapy practice. In this new edition, the editors and authors expand on their journey, explaining the refinements they have made to the resulting Cardinal Hill Occupational Participation Process (CHOPP) to inform client-centered care.
This new edition and the accompanying DVDs are designed to assist occupational therapists at all levels, including those who are beginning practice, experienced therapists transitioning from the UT-III to the Framework, and therapists educating others in the application of the Framework. Chapters include adults and pediatric case studies that illustrate a variety of physical and mental health diagnoses. Readers can view the case studies on the DVD and compare them with the written case notes to see how these examples were translated by the authors into the CHOPP format. This book also includes chapters on implementing client-centered care as well as describe Cardinal Hill s client satisfaction survey to measure successful implementation of a client-centered system. Appendixes in the book and on the DVDs include blank adult and pediatric CHOPP forms, as well as the complete text of the current Framework. This book will serve as a useful tool for clinicians who want to better integrate Framework principles into their practice and for those who want to expand their knowledge about client-centered care at various levels. Readers who are in the process of reorienting their individual or an organizational service delivery toward a client-centered model will find that the rewards in improved quality of care are well worth the challenges.
