Synopsis
This volume presents the proceedings of a workshop on spectral line shapes. It consists of a comprehensive collection of papers dealing with the measurements and description of spectral line profiles as they result from the interaction of the electromagnetic radiation with matter. The interaction among atoms, molecules, ions, and electrons affects quantitatively the formation of the observed line-shapes. Thus, line shape analysis becomes a powerful diagnostic tool of particle interactions, and of fundamental physical properties in hostile environments and for remote sensing devices.
