SPLIT-LEVEL DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR - A rarely available first edition copy of the eighth installment of the longest-running queer serial comic (strips #265 - 297, plus intro and novella). The strip ran for 25 years with the characters aging in real time, a feat very few comic strips accomplished or even attempted (GASOLINE ALLEY having set the bar very high). SPLIT-LEVEL DTWOF finds the central characters and the LGBTQ community on the cusp of big changes: Clarice and Toni move to the suburbs while Ginger, Lois, and Sparrow put an offer on the house they've been renting for ages, and Mo, . well, Mo continues to be the best Mo she can possibly be. The book ends with "Demographic Shift", a 47-page aria covering one day when all the character's lives are turned sideways. Ms. Bechdel is again exercising her story-telling mastery the rest of the world will discover only when "Fun Home" hits the shelves in 2006. CONDITION: Near Fine/As New. 8.5" X 5.5", 128 BW pages in glossy color soft cover wraps. Interior edges of covers show negligible tanning, outer top edge at spine has what looks like glue from binding process. First edition. First printing unstated but assumed - Firebrand Books in 1998 continued to release excellent material but rarely sell out an initial printing - plus Lambda Rising (Baltimore) set this aside for me when it arrived from the publisher.
