The creation of models and materials is where most 3D work is done. This work offers tutorials and exercises in this area, supplemented by models and textures on the CD-ROM.

A book designed for all MAX users
When Ted and I set out to write this book, our goal was to provide a heap of information about MAX R2 in a clear, concise manner. With both of us coming from a training background, we knew the hot buttons of the users- what made sense in MAX and what took a little more time to cover in a typical class. The end result of our training experiences is this book.
However, the book isn't based on just theory. There are real-world, practical exercises and examples of how MAX R2 would be used in production- most of which is based on our own production experience.
Perhaps the most common thing heard from MAX users alike is, "NO PLUG-IN'S!". It's a common theme among users- "Show me what I can do with the software I paid thousands of dollars for and not something else I have to add on." Ted and I are both happy (and a little proud) to say that this book doesn't require the use of any plug-ins. You can do all of the exercises and re-create any of the examples without using any 3rd party software. Don't get us wrong. We both use them ourselves as several of the plug-ins available are extremely useful; we just know that you're looking for a in-depth book on MAX- what you get out of the box.
It's our hope that everyone will get something from this book- from casual to hardcore users. We had a great time writing it. We hope you have an equally great time reading it.
