A book for anyone interested in African American history and/or photography.
This book of essays and photographs examines work executed between 1929 and 1949 by seven visual storytellers--Gordon Parks, Morgan & Marvin Smith, Robert H. McNeill, and Addison, Robert, & George Scurlock. We wanted to show how crucial photographs and photograpers were to black America during this time--they documented African American achievements as well as despair in a segregated society. The photographers empowered their communities, and the past lives again through their work.
