Synopsis
Using more than 200 short poems (which can imply so much in so few words) as discussion starters, this flexible set of thematic lessons aims simultaneously to teach values and appreciation for poetry. Twelve open-ended lessons are each devoted to a values-related theme (for example, ''The Perils of Complacency,'' ''Learning to Know Ourselves,''Dealing With Adversity,'' ''Expressing and Overcoming Loneliness,'' ''Recognizing the Rights of Women'') and each supplies a variety of reproducible handouts which include brief, thought-provoking poems and questions for critical thinking.
