This volume provides an overview of human rights issues, including the historical basis for the movement to uphold human rights internationally, and a look at the state of civil, political, economic and social rights today. The modern ideal of human rights sprang from the atrocities of World War II, and was codified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This book takes a look at international human rights issues today, including political repression, the denial of people's economic rights and the denial of women's rights.
