The eighty-two reading selections and the 'Perspective' essays that open each chapter in Part I introduce students to key issues'and ways of approaching these issues'in the areas of science, social science, business, humanities, communication, career education, and interdisciplinary perspectives.
Each chapter in Part I concludes with several readings that offer different perspectives on a similar issue. These forums include topics such as 'Scientists and Science Ethics,' 'How Smart Are Intelligence Tests?' 'Government and the Arts,' and 'Voyaging in Cyberspace.'
Part II offers separate chapters on reading strategies, writing as a process, thinking/writing strategies, report writing and proposal writing, as well as research strategies'including coverage of the current MLA and APA documentation styles and samples of student writing using each.
